Holiday in Spain day 2
After that gorgeous drive, we arrived in Monachil. The village next to Granada where we had a room for 2 nights.
When the navigation said we had to turn right, into a street named 'Camino de la Umbria', we started sweating a little. Think you ever saw a narrow road? That's what we thought until we saw this one. So, Juri carefully drove our (again way too big) car onto the road. And just when we got used to how narrow it was....it got even more narrow.
Do you know these cars that beep if you are too close to an object? Well, the car beeped 50% of the time on that road. And it was not a one way street. But, Juri did it! Time to relax now.
Hotel La Almunia del Valle . A small boutique hotel. Our favorite place of the whole trip if we look back now. Beautiful spot, very nice owners and carefully decorated.
This is the lounge area.
And this was our room.

But what made it most special, was breakfast on the terrace with this view.
Heavenly.

Holiday in Spain pictures
The last 2 weeks of May we went on holiday in Spain. We traveled through Southern Spain, a part called Andalusia. I will be putting up some pictures and stories over the next few weeks. I still have about 350 pictures to go through.. Ready?
We flew at a ridiculous time. We had to get up at 4 to fly at 7:30. Positiv thing was that it allowed us to spend 1 night in Malaga. We spent it in the Petit Palace Plaza. A pretty hotel and located extremely well in the city center but a quiet alley. This bed we had our very first siƫsta in. Hey, getting up at 4 is not our thing.
We walked around town. They had these flowers on all the lanterns in the big shopping street our hotel was right next to.
Malaga also has a lot of street art. Don't you just love street art? New like this bench.
And old like this fountain.
The houses are all very pretty and..clean! I love clean streets and houses.
What's a city (in Spain) without a huge cathedral.
Next day we took our (way too big Citroen C5) rental car out of the (way too small spot in the ) parking lot and drove towards Granada.
The views were magnificent. We took a touristic route of course. Highways are boring and for people in a hurry. Not for holidays.
Luckily Juri was paying very good attention to the road, because all of a sudden goats were crossing.
There they go. All safely on the other side of the road now. On we go.

See that! Snow! That is the Sierra Nevada mountains. That is where we were heading. Not to the snow, but Granada is right next to it.

Happy Fathersday
Thanks for being there when we need you 'Pa'! Now more than ever. Can't believe you are younger in this picture than I am now.
And going through my album I ran into this picture. This man giving me my milk is my great-grandfather. My moms grandpa. He died when I was one just before my sister was born I believe. I have no memories and only this picture, but you can sense he was a great guy. And I have my moms stories to proof same.

Collage yourself
On the blog of lovely and sweet blogger Faiza, I saw her do a collage about herself. I wanted that too! The above collage describes me. I like it quite a lot.Faiza asks you to join in. It is so easy and so much fun! The 'how to' can be found here.

Woodland Swap
The woodland theme seems quite popular these days. Also in the Netherlands.
In the Dutch group on swap-bot there was a woodland theme swap which I joined. I already knew what I wanted to make. An upcycled pillow case. But then I found out my partner had the color green mentioned in her dislike section.
Stubborn as I am, I made what I wanted to make anyway and took the chance that she would not like it. Hey...I can always take it back and make something else, right?Turns out that the first reaction Nancy had when she saw my package was: oh no...green. And her second reaction when she unfolded was a jump of joy.
Phew.

Throat Chakra mandala
This chakra stands for expression. And expression can be communication, laughter, crying, creativity and much more.
I worked from the center to the outside. I am actually quite happy with it! Although it took me a while to get used to the last part I did on the outside. I thought it was too 'hard' compared to the sweet middle. The mandala drawing is colored pencil on white paper, 50x50 cm.

Hup Holland Hup!
Soccer and the Netherlands go hand in hand. Although our flag is red white and blue, our national color is orange, because our Royal family are the House of Orange. Back in the old days, people would decorate their house and their street like in the picture above.
I don't like decorating my house or street. Just for the simple fact that it is a lot of work and effort and I know myself. I will not have the energy to take the decorations down. Same reason I do not have a Christmas tree at Christmas. Matter of fact, I took my fabric easter eggs out of the small decoration tree I have only last week.
I went through my fabric stash earlier this week and I looked up all my orange fabrics. Then I made two small banners that I put up in the house. This last picture is our kitchen window.See the reflection? That is across the street. I am afraid my first picture is not really in the past. It is what I see when I look out of my kitchen window. My neighbours went crazy in putting up flags. Let's hope it all helps our soccer team to win their first world cup 2010 match against Denmark tomorrow. Cheer with me: Hup Holland Hup!

Waking up weird
This morning at 7 am a bird landed on our roof top and did a darn good dog impression... Seriously....Wish I was kidding.
This is probably the weirdest way of waking up in the morning.
Tell me, what is the weirdest thing that happened to you lately? Let's share weird and have a laugh.

Fabrics!!

Returning from my holiday in Spain is so much more fun since I joined swap-bot! My frontdoor was close to blocked with mail and packages. Fun! And even though I arrived after midnight, I could not wait to open all the fun.
Above are some fat quarters I received on a vintage fabric swap, a fabric swap for Dutchies and a blog swap by Knofje. Lots and lots of vintage, retro, colorful goodies. A pile like this makes me smile big time.
Here's what I sent back on one of the three swaps to Anni-tas. I tried to make it a big variety of kinds of fabric and I hope she likes them. I'll be putting up more things I received the coming days, while I am working on my holiday pictures and stories. Because I have a few stories and LOADS of pictures.
