Flea market catch

Here's a small portion of what I picked up at a small local flea market today. Don't these pin brooches bring back memories?
All will be cleaned, photographed and put in my Etsy store in November.

All..maybe not all. I really like the newspaper clamb. Maybe I will keep that myself if I can find the right spot for it.

Mother Nature

Today a friend sent me this video. All kinds of emotions came by while watching it and at some point I almost turned it off. But I didn't. And I am happy I didn't.

Be absolutely flabbergasted at the end, like I was.

Mosaic platter

Although drawing mandala's is my passion, every now and then I try something new.

When I saw the advertisement to mosaic a round platter in the village I live in, I signed up. I was very curious to see if I would like it and how a mandala in mosaic would turn out as there's less controle over the result then when I use my pencils.

Four Monday nights in a row I was cutting tiles to a point where I had blisters on my fingers. It was a lot of fun to do, but what a mess it causes! I could never do this at home. I am sure pieces of tile would be found a year later, like you tend to find needles from the Christmas tree in the summer.

Making the little blue round pieces was most of the work. But, actually easiest to work with once cut, because you don't have to puzzle how and when it will fit.

For example the purple parts on the sides, that took me 2 hours. Cutting, fitting, glueing. My goodness. But I love the way it ended up. I love the way the colors look. I enjoyed working on it, but I am not bound to go mosaic something again soon. It takes a lot of time and...I have NO clue what to do with this platter now. Were it a drawing, I could put it in an album like most my drawings are.

Too bad it can't be used outside as a bird water plate. I could put it outside, but it would break. And that's not why I put all the hours in. I will only do that when I am fed up with it. And I am sure that's when it will last forever...

Halloween Eighties

Halloween unfortunately is not a big thing over here in the Netherlands. The blogs from the States I read are full of this festivity for a few weeks already and the most beautiful ugly decorations come by. I kept it at 3 pumpkins at my front door.

The other day I ran into this vintage book. Although Boy George now is scarier than ever, he tried to be a big trendsetter back in the eighties.

His clothes were a little diferent, but everyone wore black with premier colors and oversized. His hats were a statement though, as well as his make-up.

So, if you would like to dress up for Halloween the way Boy George dressed at the time of Karma Kameleon, I have the best source of information for sale in my Etsy store. It holds patterns for hats and shirts plus 'How To' make-up drawings. And after Halloween, I am sure you can use it for one of the eighties parties that are all over these times.
